They claim that Yunus is not a Boko Haram member.
Yunus was arrested by the State Security Service operatives, who said that the varsity lecturer was a recruitment officer for the violent Islamic sect.
The SSS had arrested Yunus and 4 others, parading them as suspected members of the Boko Haram insurgent. It was also alleged that the arrested people had been planning to unleashed terror on the people of
Kogi State.
Yunus was called the “spiritual leader and recruitment coordinator” of a terrorist cell in Kogi state.
However, the JNI in a statement by its Secretary-General, Dr. Khalid Aliyu, on Tuesday in Kaduna noted that after a thorough investigation by the religious body, it discovered that the said lecturer was not related to Boko Haram sect.
The JNI argued that it would be doubtful that a whole “spiritual leader and recruitment officer” of the group would shed tears publicly while denying any link to the sect.
