Ebola Vs Trial Vaccine: United State to Conduct Vaccine Trial in Nigeria

United States health officials have said they are considering a trial test of the recently launched Ebola vaccine in Nigeria, as they also prepare to test the vaccine in The Gambia and Mali in mid-September.

The Ebola vaccine was developed by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), a part of the US National Institutes of Health, and GlaxoSmithKline. The testing is expected to start on Tuesday with 20 volunteers to see if the virus is safe for use on humans.

According to the statement, these trials are conducted in healthy adults who are not infected with Ebola virus to determine if the vaccine is safe and induces an adequate immune response. The statement reads in part: below...

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said on Thursday it has become aware of products being sold online that fraudulently claim to prevent or treat Ebola.

The FDA's warning comes on the heels of comments by Nigeria's top health official, Onyebuchi Chukwu, who reportedly said earlier Thursday that eight Ebola patients in Lagos, the country's capital, will receive an experimental treatment called nano-silver.

Silver has been used as an antibacterial for centuries. Tiny silver particles known as nano-silver have controversially been incorporated into a variety of consumer products such as socks and bedding to help block odors caused by bacteria and mold.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency considers nano-silver a pesticide. Manufacturers of products that contain it must register them with the agency.

Ebola Must Expire: Aliko Dangote donates N150million to fight Ebola in Nigeria

Great news! Africa's richest man Aliko Dangote has donated N150million to help in the fight of the spread of the Ebola virus in Nigeria.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Dangote Foundation, Mrs Adhiambo Odaga announced this at a media briefing at the Ministry of Health, Abuja on Monday. She said the money will be available for the establishment of an Ebola emergency operation centre in Lagos.

“After bilateral discussion with the honourable minister and his team, Dangote foundation has funded the establishment of the Ebola emergency operation in Lagos, that is being done through grant from the foundation of just a little over N150 million,” she said. Continue...

"The strategy that our chairman is deploying is the strategy to respond and to commend government for the effort, and to show that all Nigerians are concerned. We will continue to discuss with the ministry about what additional support can be offered.

According to reports: police arrest killer of wealthy Lagos business woman

Finally the prime suspect in the killing of 39 year old Lizzy Njideka Nzewe, Kelechi Williams, an indigene of Umorji, Anambra state, has been arrested in Cote D'Ivoire.

Kelechi, 33, is accused of strangling Mrs Nzewe to death at her Green Estate Amuwo Odofin resident in Lagos on Monday July 21st. She was until her death a manager at Edmark Nigeria limited, and was a divorced mother of 4. She was in a relationship with the killer as at the time of her murder.

Police claim Kelechi is a serial killer with a criminal past. He was formerly based in South Africa where he was declared wanted by the South African police after committing a series of crimes. He fled SA for Ghana where he lived until he met Mrs Nzewe and started shuttling between Ghana and Nigeria to spend time with his older lover.

According to reports, things between the lovebirds was going well until Kelechi proposed marriage to Mrs Njideka which she turned down. He decided then to kill her and steal from her. Continue...
